A few random thoughts; these ideas are not mine, but are anybody’s?
Put GInger in everything adds a zest you can get used to and has blood cleaning properties among other health benefits.
Also put lemon is everything as well. Theres much research that if you put in a google search about healthy properties of lemon the juice is even good for hair and skin as well as alkalizing your body, most people PH levels are fucked and we need everything we can to re-alkalize.
Finally Great tip to help out the pulp mess, put a plastic bag in the pulp chute so you don’t have to clean as much.
Thanks, interested to see what this can grow into!
just did beet, carrot, celery.
3 pint yield, added 50 grams of vega protein powder w/5 grams bcaa.
yum
what kind of juicer do you use? i’ve heard the breville juice fountain plus is the best and that many other models are less than adequate.
i’ve just been going crazy doing whatever. 1.5lbs of beets, green apple, 5 carrots. or entire red cabbage, 5 carrots. or cucumber, parsley, lemon. or cucumber, green apple, entire bunch of kale. whole bunch of kale, entire celery bunch, green apple.
but i guess there may be a more scientific way to do this? any ideas? are there places that describe in detail a detox menu?
There’s a lot of great info about fruits and veggies here:
http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php
But, really, no one knows what the best way to detox is…or really what a detox entails.
I just go by how I look, feel, and perform.
So I’ve been following your other blog for a while and am intrigued by the idea of juicing. I already eat a healthy amount of fruit and especially vegetables. Is there any specific advantage of juicing, or is the benefit that it’s just an easier, tastier way of consuming fruits and vegetables?
I eat a lot of veggies and fruits, too. Digestion is an intensive and often inefficient process. Juicing allows for better absorption of micronutrients and phytonutrients.
It also gives you digestive system a break. Your intestines, like your knees, wear down with heavy use. Let’s say you’ve eaten an average of 4 meals a day. Take 4*365*(your age).
By the time you’re 60, you’ll have digested nearly 100,000 meals.
Juicing gives your digestive system a little break.
my juicer arrived today and my daughter and i made a kiwi strawberry smoothies. it rocked. i think we are going to enjoy this. on the savory side, i’m thinking of making a salsa juice with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, limes and salt. gonna start experimenting and posting results here.
What juicer did you get?
A lot of people juice bell peppers and report that it gives a really nice, unexplainable buzz. (I have a night shade food allergy or else I’d juice them.)
i got the breville je98xl juice fountain plus 850 watt
Thanks for all the info. I immediately bought the more expensive of the two juicers you suggested and have gone through probably 50lbs of veggies. It’s all tasted great – except for the onion. I can’t imagine drinking a half cup/day. I think I feel better and skin is improving, but time will tell.
How do you incorporate the whey/coconut oil? How much oil do you use? Also, any ideas on the sugar count that comes through when juicing. I’m not too worried with veggies and lemons – but I do have some weight to cut for a bjj tournament later in the month.
Thanks for all the hard work – keep it up!
Rob
Onion juice is supposed to raise testosterone levels. I vomited it up, even after cutting it with apples. Simply couldn’t keep it down.
I throw in 30-45 grams of protein and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.
The sugar in juice burns differently than regular sugar. I don’t understand why. But I know how I look and feel when juicing. It’s just different.
Do you think it would be overkill to add the superfood greens to the fresh juice?
There’s no need to. The superfood greens is meant for times when you can’t have fresh greens. Those powders are freeze-dried juice. So when you can, juice. When you can’t, use greens.
This is quickly becoming my favorite recipe-
3 stalks kale, 3 stalks collards, handful of cabbage chunks, handful of brussel sprouts, third of a cucumber, granny smith apple and orange.
It’s tasty but not too sweet, makes 20 oz almost right on the nose, and is loaded with tons of servings of the best veggies you can get.
Can’t wait to start adding in beets
Beets are great but be sure to educate yourself, and go easy to begin with as well as always dillute the beet juice with other juices.
I’ve read reports such as violent flu like symtoms (supposedly marking a intense detox, which sounds good and quick but our livers can’t possibly filter out all the shit in us that quickly which is wha the beets do) and temporary paralysis of vocal cords among other things, that beaing said beets are fucking awesome.
